Okay, since I last posted, the problems with cheerleading appear to FINALLY be resolved. I spoke with the head of the program and she has received the same complaints from TWO other parents, and she promises she will handle all of the complaints (two practices a week during the school week, continuing practices well past sunset, singling out Maura when she does something wrong - and not doing it to anyone else when they make mistakes, taking her issues with me out on my kids, etc.) We're switching to one practice a week (a fair compromise, I think) and, if I feel it's too dark out and/or Maura is too tired to continue, I'm welcome to pull her of practice at any time without the threat of reprimand. Let's keep our collective fingers crossed that this all works out the right way.
The past three days have been me doing my best impression of Baking Martha. I made sconces (surprisingly easy), two batches of double fudge brownies, chocolate cupcakes, and lemon poppy seed muffins. It's amazing how much I enjoy baking when the weather starts to turn cooler.
Wednesday, Julia and I went shopping and bought her gown for the Homecoming Dance. I can't believe how grown up she looks (see above.) As you'll note, she didn't go with the retro 50's design she was obsessing over last week. The dress comes with a matching red satin/taffeta wrap. She just tried this one on and told me to put back the other 4 dresses we took into the dressing room with us, as this was "the one". Keep in mind, Julia is the kind of person who usually takes 15 to 20 minutes to decide whether she wants a muffin or a bowl of cereal for breakfast every morning. She doesn't just make quick decisions, so she must really love this one. I hope so! A good friend of mine who makes custom designed jewelry is making her necklace, and we're hopefully going shoe shopping this weekend (so we can get the dress in to be hemmed to the right height.)
Amelia was OK with going to school on Wednesday (*whew*) and went off without a hitch on Thursday. Of course, Thursday was the day that Patrick took her. She couldn't let Daddy see her cry and carry on about everything. *grr*
Today (Friday) was spent packing up summer clothes and putting them in Space Bags (I love these things!) or, if Amelia has outgrown them, into bags for The Salvation Army. It's amazing how much room I now have in the closets. Too bad it won't last.
I, also, got a nibble on my job search. A position I submitted my resume for about two months ago left me a voice mail message earlier this afternoon. Hopefully it'll at least end up with an interview. I really miss working (and the paychecks - lol.)
Now I'm off to warm up a bit. We went to High School Football tonight and froze our butts off, watching our team lose 47 - 7. Ouch. At least we can console ourselves on the fact that we were not the favorite to win. Still hurts, though. Oh well, Falcon football on Sunday should be pretty good. Gotta keep thinking positive.
